FUJIFILM presents a new external high-end flash unit with the new "EF-X500" clip-on flash. The EF-X500 has a guide number of 50*1 and supports high-speed synchronization (FP mode) so that the flash can be used at all shutter speeds. The photographer can therefore concentrate fully on taking pictures when a faster shutter speed is required, for example at maximum aperture to achieve beautiful bokeh.
The EF-X500 also supports strobe flash. The photographer can use multiple flashes and direct the light freely onto the subject and the background to achieve a creative result. TTL flash control is available in both single flash and multi-flash mode, so that the photo shoot can begin without having to laboriously adjust the light output.
High-speed synchronization (FP mode)
In cameras equipped with a focal plane shutter, when the shutter speed is very fast, the first and second shutter curtains move at the same time so that the exposure is made through a narrow vertical slit between them. As a result, the light from a conventional flash unit can only reach a narrow area of the sensor. For this reason, a slower shutter speed must be used in flash photography, although the range of available shutter speeds is severely limited.
The EF-X500 supports FP mode (high-speed flash synchronization), in which the flash emits continuous light while the first and second curtains move across the sensor. This enables flash photography at any shutter speed.
If you want to shoot with an almost maximum aperture in order to achieve pictures with a beautiful bokeh, you tend to use a higher shutter speed. This flash mode frees photographers from the limitations of shutter speed. Instead, you can concentrate fully on taking pictures.
Wireless multi-flash TTL
The EF-X500 can be used in a multi-flash setup. The light can be directed freely onto the subject and the background. This allows very creative results to be achieved. TTL flash control is available in both single flash and multi-flash mode, so that the photo shoot can begin without having to laboriously adjust the light output.
Multiple flashes can be controlled in up to three groups, each of which can be set up with a different light output. The lighting mood can therefore be very finely tuned. The light output of each group can also be set in the camera menu.
Weatherproof
The EF-X500 is the first FUJIFILM flash to be splashproof and dustproof. This makes it the perfect companion for the weatherproof camera models in the X series.
Innovative design
The front of the EF-X500's body has a leather texture and its design also perfectly matches the FUJIFILM X-series cameras. The flash has a low center of gravity for optimal operation in conjunction with an X-series camera, which are known for their light weight and compact bodies.
